Tarot, or tarocchi, originated in Italy in the 1400s with the Dukes of Ferrara and Milan. Tarot Decks and cards have gone through many different iterations since then, but the 78 card deck has been largely standard, containing 22 Major Arcana cards, the original trump suit, and four minor arcana suits, Swords, Wands, Cups, and Pentacles, each containing 14 cards, from Ace to Ten, and including Court Cards, Page, Knight, Queen and King.

Among these cards, the Major Arcana are considered the stronger of the Archetypes, some say, holding the more important energy of the reading, while the minors hold more of the details of the reading. That being said, many cards, major and minor alike can be lucky in the right circumstance.

Empress Card

If a person was working on fertility magic, wishing to get pregnant, for instance, I might suggest they focus intention on the energy of the Empress card, the archetypal mother.  In a reading where a person asked me about pregnancy concerns, receiving this card in the upright position would mean their hopes would fare well and they were likely to become a mother. In this circumstance the Empress card would be considered very lucky!

But, there are many cards that hold overall lucky energy in any context.

Here are ten of the luckiest tarot cards.

The Sun Tarot Card

The Sun Card is the archetypal happiness card, considered very lucky in a tarot reading. It signifies positive energy, success, abundance, and joy.  The Sun radiates warmth and symbolizes vitality and growth.  Receiving this card in a reading is a sign of good fortune.  You can know you are headed in the right direction, embrace optimism, and be encouraged to just enjoy yourself.  This card is celebratory and open, depicting a naked child riding a horse, symbolizing freedom, purity, unencumbered happiness, enthusiasm, playfulness and joy.  The child is drawn in front of a walled garden filled with sunflowers.  The walls indicate a safe and protected space and harmonious environment that fosters innocence and joy.

The Star Card is another of the luckiest tarot cards.  Symbolizing hope, divine guidance, and dreams coming true, the Star is the light in the darkness.  Again we see a naked person, kneeling at the edge of a natural pool or river, embodying an openness and purity of intuition, cleansing, healing, and renewal, the energy of giving and receiving in a balanced manner in both the emotional and spiritual realms.  Receiving the Star Card in a reading is a hopeful card, encouraging you to wish on a Star, trust the natural flow in your life, and open to the vastness and limitless possibilities the Stars represent.

The World Tarot Card

A third naked figure is seen in another of the luckiest of the tarot cards, The World Card.  The World card is the last of the Major Arcana cards, symbolizing completion of the hero's journey, ending in fulfillment and success.  This card shows a balance of the elements, the naked person represents authenticity, wholeness, the true self, surrounded in a wreath that symbolizes victory, achievement, and recognition.  When you receive this card in a reading, you can be sure you are experiencing or are headed for success.  This card encourages celebration of your prosperity.

Following the World card, another very lucky card depicts the same laurel wreath held by a figure being celebrated for their success in a minor arcana card, the Six of Wands.  The Six of Wands is also a card of victory and recognition.  This card signifies luck is on your side.  You will not only fulfill your endeavors, but also receive public acclaim, and be celebrated by others for your victory.  It depicts a cheering crowd, or a parade, symbolizing recognition in addition to the fulfillment of your goals, symbolized by the wreath.  The figure is above the crowd, riding on a horse, symbolizing strength, leadership, confidence, and determination.  This lucky card indicates success, achievement, validation and recognition.

Another of the Wands cards, the Four of Wands, depicts a celebratory scene, full of joy, harmony, and festivity.  It is often seen as depicting a wedding, with a couple standing under an archway, adorned with wreaths and holding bouquets aloft.  It is a card of celebration and joy.  It signifies a time of happiness, a celebration of a special occasion.  It may indicate an achievement, recognition, or a milestone.  The Four of Wands prompts you to feel gratitude and appreciation for the blessings in your life, to feel the love around you, and may indicate a coming wedding or other celebration.  It definitely indicates a harmonious relationship, love, and a successful partnership.

The Ten of Cups Tarot Card

The Ten of Cups is another of the luckiest cards in the deck. It depicts a family dancing under a rainbow, and generally represents happiness, joy and good fortune. The ten cups symbolize an overflow of positive emotion, emotional fulfillment, and and a deep sense of satisfaction.  The card can represent dreams come true, blessings and abundance.  It suggests you are surrounded with a multitude of blessings, whether in loving relationships, family, emotional well being, material abundance, or all of the above.  This is the card of blessings.

The Ten of Pentacles Tarot Card

Another ten, the Ten of Pentacles is a very lucky minor arcana card.  The ten of pentacles shows again, a family, this time in a domestic scene, replete with three generations, and even a pair of dogs.  This card reflects material abundance, generational wealth, stability, and long-lasting prosperity and blessings.  The castle or estate depicted symbolizes comfort, luxury, and legacy.  There is a sense of familial unity and support.  It validates that you are building a solid foundation for long lasting security and joy, and that you are receiving or will receive the fruits of long term effort and investments.  The ten pentacles indicate tangible manifestations, financial and physical abundance.

The Wheel of Fortune is another of the Major Arcana that is considered a lucky card.  When it is received upright in a reading, it represents destiny, good luck, and unexpected opportunity.  The changing fates and tides of life are turning in your favor.  You can expect new possibilities, good fortune, and energy of change of movement in a new and favorable direction.  This card is a card of positive change and transformation.  The wheel of fortune or fate or destiny also points to cosmic or divine forces.  It is time to seize opportunity that is presented to you.

The Nine of Cups Tarot Card

The Nine of Cups is another lucky card, known as the wish card, it generally represents dreams come true, happiness, and fulfillment.  It depicts a man sitting comfortably in his home, accomplished, satisfied and content.  This card definitely indicates luck is in your favor.  And you are likely to achieve your aspirations and be satisfied.  Because the figure is depicted at home, this card indicates a personal happiness, and an inner fulfillment.  There is emotional satisfaction, harmony, and peace.  It points toward self-love, self-acceptance, self-care, belief in oneself, happiness in your own skin.  There is a wealth and prosperity to this man, who owns his home, and is connected to resources both inner and outer.  There is self-sufficiency here as well as a nurturing and pleasing self-created environment.

The Two of Cups Tarot Card

And last but not least, the Two of Cups is one of the luckiest cards to get in a reading about love.  The card depicts two figures facing one another holding their cups at their hearts.  It is associated with romantic love, the blossoming of a new relationship, meaningful connection.  This card holds the potential for a deep emotional bond, being in love, harmonious romantic partnership.  Similar to the Lovers card, but more focused on the loving connection, the Two of Cups is a fortunate card to receive if you are wondering if someone has that loving feeling.  Here we find a potential for a deep bond.
